Maytag Maxima front-load washer error codes

Excessive suds

Check/Repair

Excessive suds is detected during the cycle. The cycle goes into a suds kill routine by filling the tube with water and then tumbling the clothes. If this routine doesn't eliminate the suds, the control displays the SUDS code. Use the right amount of high-efficiency (HE) detergent with future loads.

Load detected during the washer cleaning cycle

Check/Repair

Remove clothes from the washer. The washer must be empty when running a washer cleaning cycle.

Main control board failure

Check/Repair

Try to reset the control board by unplugging the washer for 5 minutes and then restoring power. If the F1E1 code returns after restoring power, replace the main electronic control board.

Motor control board error

Check/Repair

Unplug the washer. Check the wire harness connections on the motor control board. Make sure the drive motor connections are secure. If the wiring connections are okay, replace the motor control board.

Main control board mismatch or main control board failure

Check/Repair

The code appears when you install the wrong main control board. Order and install the correct main control board for your washer. If the code appears when you're not replacing the main control board, then the main control board failed. Replace the main control board.

Water level pressure switch failure

Check/Repair

Unplug the washer. Check the wiring between the water level pressure switch and the main control board. Reconnect any loose wires. Replace the wire harness if damaged. If the wiring is okay, replace the water level pressure switch.

Temperature sensor failure

Check/Repair

Unplug the washer and check the wiring going to the water temperature sensor. If the wiring is okay, replace the temperature sensor.

This code appears if the control does not detect the door opening after 3 consecutive loads, indicating that the door switch failed. The code also displays when the door switch is open with the door locked. Replace the door lock/switch.

The door can't lock. Unplug the washer and check the door lock assembly for damage or a loose wiring connection. Clear any debris out of the door lock assembly. Replace the door/lock switch if defective.

The washer won't unlock. Unplug the washer and check the door lock assembly for damage or a loose wiring connection. Replace the door/lock switch if defective.

Communication error between the main control board and motor control board

Check/Repair

Unplug the washer and check the wire harness connections between the main control board and the motor control board. Reconnect any loose wires. Replace the wire harness if damaged. Replace the motor control board if defective. If the problem persists, replace the main control board.

Communication error between the main control board and the user interface control

Check/Repair

This code signals a communication failure between the user interface control and the main electronic control board. Unplug the washer and check the wire harness between the user interface control and the main electronic control board. Reconnect any loose wires. Replace the wire harness if damaged. Replace the user interface control. If the problem persists, replace the main electronic control board.

Motor tachometer failure

Check/Repair

Unplug the washer and check the wiring between the motor control board and the drive motor. Check the wire harness connection between the motor control board and the main control board. Reconnect any loose wires. Replace any damaged wire harnesses. If the wiring connections are okay, check to see if the spin basket rotates smoothly. If not, resolve any friction issues in the drive system such as an obstruction caught between the spin basket and tub. If the spin basket rotates smoothly, replace the drive motor. If the problem persists, replace the motor control board.

Motor or motor control board overheated

Check/Repair

Overloading the washer can cause this code to appear. Remove some clothes if you overloaded the washer. Friction in the drive system also overheats the motor or the motor control board. Remove any obstructions between the spin basket and the tub. Replace the tub bearing if it's worn or locked up. Replace the drive motor or motor control board if defective.

Steam valve failure

Check/Repair

Check the water supply hoses for kinks. Check for a restricted screen in the water valves. Replace the steam valve if defective.

No water detected

Check/Repair

Make sure that both water supply valves behind the washer are fully open. In winter, check the fill lines for freezing. Check the drain system for a siphon problem. If the water valve assembly is defective, replace it.

Check/Repair

The dispenser can't move into position. Unplug the washer and check the mechanical linkage on the dispenser housing. Repair or replace any damaged dispenser parts.

Check/Repair

Unplug the washer and, if the washer is overfilled, check the water valve assembly for proper shut-off of water flow. If the water valve assembly is defective, replace it. If the washer is empty when this error code appears, replace the water level pressure switch.

Low water flow

Check/Repair

The flow meter detects a long fill time. Make sure that both water supply valves behind the washer are fully open. In winter, check the fill lines for freezing. Check the drain system for a siphon problem. If the water valve assembly is defective, replace it. If water flows normally, replace the flow meter.

Long drain time

Check/Repair

Remove excess suds; the washer can't drain excessively sudsy water. Check your house drain system for a clog. Check the drain hose for kinks or clogs. Replace the drain pump if defective. If the washer drains properly, replace the water level pressure switch because it isn't accurately detecting the water level.
