Electric Range: Should I replace a damaged glass cooktop?
A glass cooktop can crack or chip if you drop something on it or if there's a flaw in the ceramic glass surface. Replace the cooktop if it's cracked or chipped.
If a glass cooktop overheats because a radiant surface element's temperature limiter fails, a thermal crack in the glass cooktop can occur above that element. In addition to replacing the cracked cooktop, also replace the thermal limiter to prevent the cooktop from cracking again. The thermal limiter is sometimes included with the radiant surface element so replace the radiant surface element if the thermal limiter isn't available separately from the surface element.
