Emco Lathes

Official Emco lathe parts

Emco makes metal lathes and milling machines to help you complete all those do-it-yourself projects around the home, but sometimes these machines can malfunction and break down. There are a lot of moving and spinning mechanical parts in Emco lathes, and the constant stress they're under from cutting materials can wear out motor parts, snap belts and damage bits. When your lathe isn't working as it should, find the Emco lathe parts you need to fix the problem at Sears PartsDirect.

How to fix common issues with your Emco lathe

  • If your lathe isn't cutting properly, then it could be a problem with the cutting tool not being set correctly. The cutting tool needs to be centered on the lathe for it to operate correctly. The tool can also move off center from the heat and friction generated from cutting through metal.
  • If your lathe is making grinding noises while in operation, it most likely needs lubricant. Seals, bearings and gears all need to be checked regularly for proper levels of lubricant to avoid not only grinding but also major damage to your lathe's motor and headstock.
  • If your lathe doesn't seem to be operating properly but you can't find anything major wrong, check to make sure the tailstock is locked down properly.
  • Your lathe can start vibrating while in operation if the work material isn't centered correctly or if it's too large for the lathe. Vibration can also signal a problem with the RPMs being too high.
  • If the carriage isn't moving, there could be a foreign object such as metal cuttings getting in the way. There might also be a problem with the crossbar.
