Troubleshooting tips to get your Samsung dryer working again

If your Samsung dryer isn’t working, here are things you can check.

  • No power. If your Samsung dryer shows no signs of life (the digital display is dead), check the house circuit breaker and reset it if tripped. For a gas dryer, you can test the outlet by plugging a night light or small appliance into it. If the dryer’s electrical outlet works, a bad power cord or faulty electronic control board can prevent the dryer from working.
  • Won’t start. Make sure the door is shut tight. If the dryer still doesn't start, there are several possible reasons, from a door switch that's not sensing that the door is closed to a failure in the main electronic control board. A failed button on the control panel or a blown thermal fuse can also prevent the dryer from starting.
  • Won’t heat. In an electric Samsung dryer, a tripped circuit breaker can prevent the dryer from heating even when the motor runs. Reset the house circuit breaker if it’s tripped. A blown thermal fuse in a gas dryer prevents the burner from lighting. Unplug the dryer and check for electrical continuity through the thermal fuse using a multimeter. Replace the thermal fuse if it measures no continuity through the thermal fuse.

Common Samsung dryer error codes

Many Samsung dryers display an error code on the control panel when the dryer encounters a part failure and stops working. The error code often helps pinpoint the component failure so you can replace the faulty part and get the dryer going again.

  • Code tS. The thermistor (temperature sensor) is defective (electrically shorted).
  • Code tO. The thermistor is defective (electrically open).
  • Code do. The dryer door is open when you’re trying to start the dryer.
  • Code dF. The door switch has failed.
  • Code HE. The heating element or gas burner system has failed.
  • Code Et. The electronic control board has failed.
