Troubleshooting your MTD electric line trimmer when it won't run
Check the power supply. Make sure that the electrical outlet that you're using to power the trimmer is good. Plug a different item into the outlet plug to check for power. Reset the house circuit breaker for the outlet if it's dead.
Check the extension cord for damage. Replace or repair broken wires in the extension cord if it's damaged.
Unplug the line trimmer and check the power cord wiring connections to the trigger switch. Reconnect any loose wires and repair any broken wires.
With the line trimmer still unplugged, check the wiring connections between the trigger switch and the motor. Reconnect any loose wires and repair any broken wires.
If all wiring connections are okay, you may need to replace the trigger switch or the motor.
Avoiding excessive cutting line usage in your MTD electric line trimmer
Always use the cutting line size that is recommended for your line trimmer. Using cutting line with a smaller diameter than recommended can cause excessive line usage.
Carefully follow the owner's manual instructions to properly wind line around the line spool and route the line through the cutting head to avoid excessive line usage.
Don't crowd the cutting line against the ground or other objects such as tree trunks or edging when trimming. Cut grass using the tip of the cutting line.
