How to fix a radiant surface element on your Hardwick electric range when it doesn't heat properly
A break or flaw in the ribbon heating element of a radiant surface element can prevent the surface element from heating properly. If a portion of the radiant surface element doesn't heat, replace the surface element.
A faulty control switch or failed surface burner relay control board can also cause surface element heating problems. If a surface element heats evenly but you can't control the temperature using the surface element switch, replace the surface element switch. Replace the relay control board is it doesn't regulate the surface element to produce the heating level you set.
A broken temperature limiter on a radiant surface element may shut off the element too soon, preventing the surface element from reaching the desired temperature. If the element cycles on and off frequently and doesn't reach the proper temperature when you choose the high setting, replace the surface element temperature limiter. The thermal limiter is sometimes included with the radiant surface element so replace the radiant surface element if the thermal limiter isn't available separately from the radiant surface element.
Common replacement parts for Hardwick electric ranges
- Bake element. The bake element is at the bottom of an electric oven and provides heat for baking.
- Broiler element. The broiler element is at the top of an electric oven interior and provides the heat for the broiling.
- Ceramic glass cooktop. The ceramic glass cooktop for an electric range provides a flat, smooth cooking surface. The radiant elements attached under the cooktop provide heat.
- Door light switch. The oven door light switch is a plunger switch on the frame of the oven above the opening to the oven. The oven door pushes the oven light switch plunger in when the door is closed to turn the light off. When the door is open, the plunger is released and the light is on.
- Control panel. The control panel houses the control keypad, temperature display and other displays. Switches and the electronic control board are attached to the control panel.
