Replacing the wall control thermostat for your Thermal Zone air handler

  • Shut off the house circuit breakers for your air handler to disconnect electrical power.
  • Remove the cover of the existing wall control thermostat. Follow the instructions in the owner's manual for the existing thermostat to remove its cover.
  • Remove the thermostat mounting screws and pull the thermostat out from the wall slightly to access thermostat wires.
  • Disconnect the thermostat wires and remove the existing wall control thermostat.
  • Connect the wires to the new wall control thermostat.
  • Mount the new thermostat to the wall using the mounting screws. Install the thermostat cover.
  • Reset the house circuit breakers for the central air conditioner to restore electrical power.

What to do when your Thermal Zone air handler won't move air

  • Check the air filter. A clogged air filter won't let any air go through the air handler. Replace the air filter if it's dirty.
  • Check the vent grill. A blocked or dirty return air vent grill can inhibit air flow through the air handler. Move any items stacked in front of the return vent grill. Clean the vent grill if it's dirty.
  • Check the house circuit breaker. If the air handler blower motor isn't running at all, reset the house circuit breaker for the hair handler. If the motor still doesn't run, you'll likely need to have a service technician examine and repair the air handler.
