Solutions for common Estate washer problems

  • Won't drain. After the wash cycle ends and before the spin cycle starts, the water should drain from your Estate washer. If water remains, first check for a kink or clog in the drain hose or a backup in the house drain system. If the drain path is clear, the drain pump might have failed or the water-level pressure switch might not sense how much water is in the washer. A failed lid switch can keep your Estate washer from advancing to the drain and spin cycle. A failed timer or problem with the drive motor can also prevent the washer from draining and spinning. Watch this video for additional troubleshooting tips to get your Estate washer draining and spinning again.
  • Won't fill. If your Estate washer doesn't fill with water, first check that the house water supply to the washer is on. If it is, and the washer won't fill at all, the inlet valves might have failed. If the washer fills partially, the problem is likely with the temperature selector switch or water-level pressure switch. If the washer agitates without filling, then the pressure switch is likely broken because it’s detecting the full tub of water when the tub is empty. Our Troubleshooting a direct-drive top-load washer that won’t fill video provides detailed troubleshooting for Estate washers.
  • Won't start. If your Estate washer is getting power but doesn't start, the switch that senses whether the lid is shut might have failed. Check the lid switch and replace it if it's damaged. The wash cycle won’t start if the washer doesn’t fill or the water-level pressure switch doesn’t detect that the washer filled. A failed timer or bad drive motor can also keep your Estate washer from starting.

What to do when your Estate washer is completely dead

Start by ruling out the obvious—is it unplugged? Did the circuit breaker trip? To test whether the electrical outlet is the problem, plug a hair dryer or other electrical device into it. If the hair dryer doesn’t work, the wiring in the outlet is the problem. If the hair dryer works, there could be a wiring problem in the washer. Unplug the washer and check the power cord for damage. Check the wiring connections on the timer. If the wiring connections are okay, you may need to replace the timer.
