Nordyne furnace maintenance tips

  • On some closet installations, the return air duct venting to your Nordyne furnace may be on the floor, in the door, in the side wall of the closet, or any combination of these locations. Clean the return air duct vent grills regularly to ensure adequate return air flow to the furnace.
  • Remove and clean the air filters at least twice each heating season and more often in dusty areas. Clean the filters using a vacuum cleaner or wash the filters with warm soapy water. Replace the filters if damaged. Some Nordyne furnaces use air filters that need to be replaced monthly. For more information regarding cleaning and replacement of filters, consult the owner's manual for your Nordyne furnace.
  • Check the roof jack for snow and ice buildup in extremely cold weather. Excessive ice formation can restrict the combustion air supply to the burner and cause inefficient burner operation. Carefully remove any excessive ice from the exhaust portions of the roof jack.

Common Nordyne furnace parts that sometimes fail

  • Thermostat. This mechanism detects the interior temperature in your home and tells your system when to turn on and off. If it isn't working, your furnace won't turn on.
  • Burner. This component creates the heat for your home by heating ventilation air. A damaged burner trips safety devices in the furnace and prevents the furnace from heating.
  • Blower motor. As your burner heats the air, your blower distributes it through the ventilation system. If the blower motor stops working, it may need replacement.
  • Air filter. You can find the air filter near the blower motor. It traps debris such as dust particles. The air filter clogs up and the furnace won't run if you don’t replace the air filter regularly.
