Can the downdraft vent system be installed behind a range?

The downdraft system is designed to be installed behind drop-in cooktops. The downdraft vent system isn't designed to be installed behind slide-in or drop–in ranges.

What is the airflow rating (CFM) of my downdraft vent system?

The downdraft vent system with a self-contained blower is typically rated at 500 CFM. Downdraft models using an external blower can vary between 600- 1500 CFM depending on your choice of external blower.

Why does the downdraft blower motor vibrate?

Check and tighten the 3 blower motor mounting nuts and rubber isolators for damage. Check for loose panel mounting screws and tighten. If the 3 motor mounting nuts are tight then the blower wheel is likely out of balance, replace the blower wheel. See our How to Replace the Blower Motor repair guide section for assistance in accessing the components in the downdraft vent system.

Why does the pop-up vent go up and down continuously?

The up/down activation switch and bracket assembly is adjusted too high, causing the switch to be continuously depressed. Remove the fan control cover from the right side of the vent. Use the 2 adjustment screws located behind the fan control cover to loosen and lower the fan control switch and bracket assembly. Loosen the 2 adjustment screws from the fan control bracket and then slide the bracket down and retighten the screws.

A defective or misadjusted limit switch can also cause the vent to continuously go up and down. Check for a damaged limit switch assembly.

Why won't the downdraft pop-up vent raise?

Check to see if the power cord is plugged into the receptacle. Unplug the downdraft power cord from the receptacle. Plug a small lamp or other small electrical device into the receptacle and confirm the receptacle has power. If the receptacle has power, check that the up/down button pad is contacting and pressing on the up/down activation switch when pushed. If it’s not, the switch needs adjusting. The installation instructions will have instructions for accessing and adjusting the up/down activation switch. If the up/down button pad is contacting and pushing the up/down activation switch, check the up/down switch and wire connections. Check the two limit switches and adjust them if needed. The cam should activate only one switch when the vent is in the down position.

Why won't the downdraft blower motor come on?

Check the fan control switch located on the right side of the vent. Make sure the fan control is switched to the ON position. Turn the fan control switch clockwise to turn the fan ON. If the blower will not come on when raised, one of the limit switches is not likely closing and completing the wire circuit to the blower motor.

Can the downdraft blower discharge be repositioned?

Yes, you have an option to change the vent discharge from the bottom to the left or right side if your floor joist, plumbing or wiring interferes with the installation of the venting. See the installation instructions for changing the discharge position.

What is the maximum length of ductwork for my downdraft vent?

The vent system will operate most efficiently when ductwork does not exceed 40 feet of equivalent duct. Keep in mind that transitions and elbows restrict airflow and must be included when adding up the length of ductwork. The installation instructions will have an image of the transition and elbow and how many feet of ductwork its equals. For example, a 6-inch round elbow equals 6 feet of a straight run of a 6-inch vent pipe.

How long is the power cord on my downdraft vent?

The power cord on the downdraft vent system is 2 feet long with a 3-prong plug. When planning the installation, keep in mind that the wall outlet can't be located on the back wall of the cabinet.

How often should I clean the filters on my downdraft vent?

Soak and then agitate the aluminum mesh grease filters in a mild detergent and hot water or place the filters in the dishwasher once a month, depending on the amount of usage. Use a nonphosphate detergent or discoloration of the filter may occur. Discoloration will not affect the grease filters. Never operate the downdraft without the grease filters in place.
