Elliptical Machine: Why can't my elliptical detect my heart rate?
Dirty heart rate sensors, a wiring failure or a faulty console can prevent the elliptical from detecting or displaying your heart rate.
If the heart rate monitor contacts on the handgrips are dirty, clean the contacts using a rubbing alcohol and a soft cloth because dirty sensors won't detect your heart rate.
Check the wiring connections between the heart rate monitors and the console. Reconnect any loose wires and repair any broken wires. If the wires are okay, you may need to replace the console because it isn't detecting the heart rate monitors' signals.
