To tell the truth, there was some disagreement in the household as to what caused the problem with the freezer. Housemate insisted it was something else. Shaking old part revealed that it rattled - which I was sure it wasn't supposed to do. Ice cream is now hard, not like Vichyssoise. Replacement was easy-peezy

The Sears refrigerator trouble shooting videos were of great help and pointed me in the right direction to order this part. Even though my refrigerator Defrost Timer seems to be working now, I replaced it with this new part and am keeping the old one as a spare.
