Essentially bolt on bolt off
Used youtube. It is a straightforward repair, but required some experience, strength, and "extra" tools. As I took of the back panel, I kept track of the sizes of screws for each hole with a sharpie. Taking off the plastic piece over the drum required strong fingernails and, for one tab, a screwdriver. The agitator was held on by one bolt but was DEEP. I need 1/4 inch socket, extension, 3/8 conversion, 2 3/8 extensions, 1/2 conversion and 1/2 extension. (Pic included next to my son's size 14 shoe). I also had a magnet to reach down to fish out and drop the bolt. I had to "jar" the agitator as it was stuck with yucky stuff that acted like a suction cup. Components came of the bottom in a common sense manner. Youtube video walked through this as well. Marked the gearbox holes as well with a sharpie which helped during the reinstall. The only part that might require 2 people is when the motor/belt is reinstalled because you have to stretch the belt as you pull down. I would have rated the ease of installation higher if the agitator would have been more easily accessible.

Replacement Washer Gear Case
Gear case was identical to OEM. Disconnect power and water. Remove the agitator bolt cap and bolt, and remove the agitator. Then tilt the washer forward onto the face (lay towels on floor to protect finish) - everything can now be accessed from the bottom. Disconnect the power from the motor, capacitor, and actuator. Remove the belt guard, then carefully pull off the wire holder next to the capacitor from the gear case. A zip strip is provided with the new gear case and it may be to replace this holder. The capacitor slips up-and-out of the holder and the holder is removed by rotating 45 degrees counterclockwise and lifting away from gear case. Now unbolt/unscrew what is attached to gear case. Finally unbolt the gear case (four bolts) from the plastic tub and carefully work the case away from the tub. Reinstalling involves inserting the drive pinion into the basket which will have dropped slightly in the tub. Be sure the quill is in line and inserted, then begin pressing the gear case into the tub cavity it sets in. Tighten bolts evenly and be sure not to strip the threads in the tub. Ensure the gear case is fully seated in the tub and snug the bolts - again, avoid over-tightening the bolts in the plastic threads. Reinstall everything in reverse order. Once the machine is upright, reinstall the horseshoe clip and the agitator. The long agitator bolt should draw the drive quill completely into position once the bolt is tightened. Replace the bolt cap, reconnect power and water, then activate the calibration cycle. The new gear case runs smoothly and quietly. I did not realize how badly the original gear box had deteriorated. After several watch cycles and I can say I am very pleased with this product.

Three tries, no success
I ordered a gear case for my washer. Came in quickly but was defective. Sears sent a replacement, sent the wrong part. Ordered a third time, isn't available until April (two months from now.
