Cleaning tips for your KitchenAid countertop microwave

  • Wash microwave interior cavity surfaces often using warm, sudsy water and a sponge or soft cloth. Use only mild, nonabrasive soap. Rinse off soap using plain water then dry all surfaces thoroughly.
  • Clean areas whether the door and oven frame touch when the door is closed.
  • To remove stubborn stains inside the microwave oven cavity, boil a cup of water in the microwave for 3 minutes. Steam will soften the stubborn stains. Clean the stains with warm sudsy water then rinse all surfaces with a cloth moistened with plain water. Dry all surfaces thoroughly.
  • Wash the turntable and turntable support whenever spills fall on the turntable and/or support.
  • Wipe down the outside of the microwave cabinet using a soft cloth moistened with mild detergent. Rinse off detergent using a soft cloth moistened with plain water. Dry all cabinet surfaces completely.

Common replacement parts for KitchenAid countertop microwaves

  • High-limit thermostat. The high-limit thermostat detects a short circuit or fire inside the microwave cabinet and shuts down the microwave to prevent injury. This component should be replaced a by a service technician because opening the microwave cabinet to replace the high-limit thermostat exposes you to a high-voltage capacitor that can retain a lethal electrical charge even when the microwave power cord is unplugged from the wall outlet.
  • Cavity light bulb. The cavity light bulb illuminates the inside cavity of the microwave when you open the microwave door and when the microwave is cooking.
  • Cooking tray. The cooking tray holds foods being cooked inside the microwave cavity and rotates to cook foods evenly.
  • Turntable motor. The turntable motor rotates the cooking tray so foods cook evenly inside the microwave.
