Replacing the O-ring in a leaking quick-connect water fitting on your Sears faucet water filter

  • Wash your hands thoroughly before handling the water fitting.
  • Shut off the water supply to the faucet water filter. Open the faucet and bleed pressure off the water supply line.
  • Disconnect the water line from the quick-disconnect fitting.
  • Using a small slot screwdriver, remove the collet and O-ring from the quick-disconnect water fitting.
  • Clean the port of the disconnect fitting.
  • Lubricate and insert the new O-ring into the bottom of the port. Push the collet into the port until it locks in place.
  • Reinstall the water line and turn on the water supply going to the faucet water filter.

Sanitizing your Sears faucet water filter system upon installation

  • Be sure that the water supply cut-off valve for the filter is shut off.
  • Wash your hands thoroughly before beginning the sanitation process.
  • Remove all filters from the system before sanitizing the equipment.
  • Remove the filter housing cap and fill the filter housing with water to about 1-inch from the top. Add 1-oz. of liquid chlorine bleach.
  • Replace the filter housing cap.
  • Slowly open the water supply cut-off valve and then open the faucet to flush water through the filter. You should smell the bleach and water solution coming out of the faucet. Once you smell the bleach, shut off the faucet and allow the bleach and water solution to soak for 20 minutes inside the filter housing.
  • After 20 minutes, open the faucet and flush water through the filter until the bleach smell is gone.
