- Carbon motor brushes. Carbon motor brushes wear down over time. Check the carbon brushes in your power saw's motor regularly and replace the brushes when wear reaches their limit mark or the carbon brush is shorter than ¼-inch.

Maintenance tips for your Makita miter saw
After each use, unplug the saw then blow out sawdust and wood chips using compressed air. Wipe off sawdust and chips using a soft cloth. Remove and clean the safety cover using a damp cloth.
Check the blade before each use. Replace the blade if it's dull or damaged.
Check the carbon motor brushes regularly. Replace the carbon motor brushes when they wear down to their limit mark. Replace both carbon brushes as the same time.
