Troubleshooting your Makita router when it won't power up
Check the electrical outlet to make sure it has power. If the electrical outlet is dead, reset the house circuit breaker for the outlet or use a different electrical outlet.
Check the power cord. Replace the power cord if it's frayed or cut.
Unplug the router and check the wiring. Reconnect any loose wires and repair any broken wires.
Check the power switch. Use a multimeter to measure continuity through the switch. If the meter measures not continuity through the switch with the switch in the on positions, replace the power switch.
Check the motor brushes. The motor won't run if the carbon motor brushes are worn down. Replace the carbon motor brushes if the brushes are worn down past their limit mark.
Maintenance tips for your Makita router
- Cleaning. Clean the router after each use. Blow out dust and debris using compressed air. Wipe down the router with a damp cloth.
- Check the bit for damage or wear before each use. Replace the bit if it's worn or damaged.
- Check the carbon motor brushes regularly. Replace the carbon motor brushes when they wear down to their limit mark. Replace both carbon brushes at the same time.
