Replacing the wall control thermostat for your Trane central air conditioner

  • Shut off the house circuit breakers for your central air conditioner to disconnect electrical power.
  • Remove the cover of the existing wall control thermostat. Follow the instructions in the owner's manual for the existing thermostat to remove its cover.
  • Remove the thermostat mounting screws and pull the thermostat out from the wall slightly to access thermostat wires.
  • Disconnect the thermostat wires and remove the existing wall control thermostat.
  • Connect the wires to the new wall control thermostat.
  • Mount the new thermostat to the wall using the mounting screws. Install the thermostat cover.
  • Reset the house circuit breakers for the central air conditioner to restore electrical power.
