What to do when your Goetti central air conditioner isn't cooling

  • Check the thermostat settings. Make sure the thermostat is set to the Cool setting. Check the temperature setting and adjust it if necessary. If the thermostat isn't working, shut off the house circuit breakers for the central air conditioner and check the thermostat wiring connections. Replace the thermostat if wiring connections are okay but the thermostat won't power up.
  • Check the house circuit breakers for the outside unit. Reset the house circuit breakers for the outside unit. Check the breaker on the side of the house near the outside unit and reset that breaker if it's tripped.
  • Change the air filter. A clogged air filter can cause the evaporator to freeze up. Replace the air filter if it's dirty.
  • Check the condensate drain line. A clogged condensate drain line will cause water to back up in the condensate drain system and trip the drain overflow float switch. The air conditioner won't cool when that drain float switch trips. Clear the clogged condensate drain line to reset the float switch.
  • Clear debris from around the outside unit. Leaves and grass around the outside condenser unit can prevent the air conditioner from cooling properly. Clear any grass, leaves or other debris from the outside of the condenser unit.

How to troubleshoot your Goetti central air conditioner when it won't start

  • Check for electrical power.Check the house circuit breaker for the central air conditioner to make sure it’s turned on. Reset the circuit breaker if it’s tripped.
  • Check the condensate drain.Central air conditioners often have a float switch mounted on the evaporator condensate drain pipe that shuts off the air conditioner if condensate water isn't draining. Shut off power to the central air conditioner and check for condensate water backing up in the evaporator drain system. Clear the drain to reset the float switch and restore power to the central air conditioner.
  • Check the thermostat. Make sure you have the thermostat set correctly. Adjust thermostat settings if necessary. If the thermostat doesn't have power, check its wiring and reconnect any loose wires. Replace the thermostat if it isn't working.
  • Examine the electronic control board. Disconnect electrical power to the central air conditioner and check the electronic control board wiring connections. Reconnect any loose wires and repair any broken wires. Check for burn marks on the circuit board and replace the electronic control board if you see burnt spots or melted wires.
