Finding out why your Frigidaire dishwasher won't drain
If water remains in your Frigidaire dishwasher after the cycle ends, check the kitchen sink drain to make sure it's not clogged. If there's no clog, try pressing the Cancel button; most Frigidaire dishwashers run the drain pump when the Cancel button is pressed.
If these tips don’t help, a broken drain pump, damaged check valve, clogged drain path or control failure (timer or electronic control) could be preventing the dishwasher from draining water.
Check the drain hose for clogs and clear the drain hose if it’s clogged. Our Dishwasher Not Draining Video shows how to check the drain hose.
The drain hose on many Frigidaire dishwashers includes a check valve that prevents water from backing up into the dishwasher sump through the drain hose. If the check valve is damaged, water may initially drain out of the dishwasher while the drain pump runs but then flow back into the dishwasher after the drain pump stops. Examine the check valve and replace it if it’s damaged.
If the drain path is clear and the drain pump runs but doesn't pump water out of the dishwasher, then you'll need to replace the drain pump. You'll also need to replace the drain pump if it doesn't run when it gets current from the control.
Common Frigidaire dishwasher parts that need replacement
- Control panel. The control panel (also called the control console) is mounted at the top of the dishwasher door and houses the selection buttons and the display for the dishwasher. The control panel connects to the electronic control board through a ribbon wire cable that communicates button presses and display functions.
- Door hinge. The door hinge is mounted on the bottom of the dishwasher door. It pivots on the bottom of the dishwasher frame to allow the dishwasher door to open. The hinge has an arm that extends toward the rear of the dishwasher. A tension spring attached to that arm controls how fast the door drops when opened.
- Electronic control board. The electronic control board is the "brains" or motherboard of the dishwasher; it starts and stops all the dishwasher's functions—filling, washing, drying and draining. It receives a signal from the control panel when you select a button and displays the cycle status, time and other information on the control panel.
- Door latch assembly. The door latch assembly is mounted at the top of the dishwasher door. It has a catch that engages the strike when the door is closed so that the door won't open during the dishwashing cycle. A handle mechanism on the latch assembly allows the catch to release the door strike so the door can be opened after the cycle is finished, or during the cycle if necessary. This assembly includes microswitches that detect whether the dishwasher door is shut and latched properly. The dishwasher won't start unless the control detects that the door is properly closed.
