How to troubleshoot a Samsung refrigerator failure

Most Samsung refrigerators display an error code on the control panel when the electronic control detects a component problem. Check the control panel for an error code and follow the troubleshooting steps listed for the displayed error code. The error code typically helps you focus your troubleshooting efforts on parts that likely failed.

Here are some error codes that sometimes appear on Samsung refrigerator controls.

  • 1E indicates a freezer compartment temperature sensor failure. Unplug the refrigerator and check the wire harness connections on the freezer temperature sensor and electronic control board. Reconnect any loose wires. If the wire harness connections are okay, it’s likely that you must replace the freezer compartment temperature sensor.
  • 6E means that the control detects an ambient temperature sensor failure. Unplug the refrigerator and check the wire harness connections on the ambient temperature sensor and electronic control board. Reconnect any loose wires. If the wire harness connections are okay, it’s likely that you need to replace the ambient temperature sensor.
  • 23E denotes a condenser fan failure. Unplug the refrigerator and check condenser fan motor wiring connections. If the wiring connections are okay, it’s likely that the condenser fan motor is the problem.
  • 26E indicates an ice maker failure. Unplug the refrigerator and check for ice cubes jammed inside the ice maker that prevent the ice maker from cycling. Remove any jammed ice cubes. If you find no jammed ice cubes, check the ice maker wire harness connections and reconnect any loose wires. If wiring harness connections are okay and cubes aren’t jamming the ice maker, it’s likely that you must replace the ice maker assembly.
