Common replacement parts for Porter Cable hammer drills

  • Carbon motor brush set. The carbon motor brush set contains the carbon motor brushes that transfer electric current to the spinning armature in the motor.
  • Chuck and spindle assembly. The chuck and spindle assembly includes the chuck that holds the drill bit and the spindle that turns to rotate the bit.
  • Compression spring. The hammer drill compression spring applies tension against the directional selection lever as it moves up or down and holds the lever in the position selected.
  • Shell assembly. The shell assembly houses the switch and drive components, and forms the outer body of the hammer drill.

Troubleshooting your Porter Cable hammer drill when it won't start

  • Check the electrical outlet for power. Reset the house circuit breaker for the electrical outlet if it's dead.
  • Check the power cord for damage. Repair any broken power cord wires or replace the power cord if it's damaged.
  • Check to see if the motor overload switch is tripped. Reset the overload switch if it's tripped.
  • Unplug the hammer drill and check the trigger switch for continuity using a multimeter. Replace the trigger switch if the meter measures infinite resistance through the trigger switch will the trigger pulled
  • Replace the drive motor if the motor doesn't run when it gets electrical current.
