Undertaking appliance repairs can be hazardous. You are assuming the risk of injury to your person or property.

Use the proper tools and safety equipment shown in the video guide and follow all instructions.

Don’t proceed until you’re confident that you understand all of the steps and are capable of completing the repair.

Some appliance repairs should only be performed by a qualified technician.

Remove the console

Unplug the washing machine and move it forward to access the back of the control console.

Follow these steps to remove the console:

  1. Remove the 2 Phillips-head mounting screws from the back of the console.

  2. Rotate the console forward to gain access to the console clips.

  3. Loosen the console clips and turn the console down to access the components.

  4. Disconnect the wire harness plugs from the console components. Disconnect the air hose from the water level pressure switch.

  5. Disconnect the grounding wire that’s attached to the top washer panel with a screw.

You can completely remove the console after disconnecting wiring harness plugs, water level switch air hose and the grounding wire. Completely removing the console makes it easier to replace parts.

Note: Be sure to reconnect the grounding wire to the top washer panel when reassembling the console.

Remove the timer

  1. To remove the timer knob, push in on the center of the knob and pull the knob retainer out from the back of the timer to release the timer knob. Pull the timer knob off the front of the console.

  2. To remove the timer skirt, use a short piece of fabric or monofilament line to pull the skirt off the front of the console.

  3. Remove the timer mounting screw.

  4. Slide the timer sideward and remove it from the console.

  5. Disconnect the timer wire harness plug.

Timer installation notes

When installing the new timer, insert the 3 tabs on the back of the timer body into the slots in the console plate.

The timer skirt is indexed in 3 locations—there are 2 narrow ridges and 1 wide slot. They correspond with 2 narrow slots and 1 wide tab on the timer shaft. Line up the ridges and slot on the skirt with the slots and tab on the timer shaft when reinstalling the timer skirt. Push the timer knob onto the timer shaft then press the retainer on the back of the timer body in to lock the knob in place.

Remove the speed control

  1. Pull the control knob straight off the speed control shaft.

  2. Depress the locking tabs on the front side of the speed control.

  3. Rotate the speed control to release it from the console plate and pull the speed control out.

Remove the water level selector switch

  1. Pull the control knob straight off the water level selector switch shaft.

  2. Remove the water level selector switch mounting screw.

  3. Slide the water level selector switch out of the console plate.

Remove the water temperature switch

  1. Release the locking tab on the back of the switch.

  2. Rotate the water temperature switch counterclockwise to release it and remove it from the console plate.
