Can I use an extension cord with a table saw?
Yes, but make sure the extension cord is in good condition and rated to handle the amperage the table saw draws. Use the shortest extension cord possible. Using the wrong extension cord damages the table saw's motor. Follow the advice in the owner's manual to select an appropriate extension cord for the saw.
What type of electrical circuit do I need for a table saw?
Use a dedicated electrical circuit for your table saw. Most table saws use a circuit with #12 or #14 copper wire with a 15-amp or 20-amp time-delay fuse. Follow the guidelines in the owner's manual to provide the table saw with power.
Why does the table saw motor slow down under a light load?
Using the wrong extension cord with your table saw causes the motor to slow down due to inadequate power. Gum residue binds up the blade and causes the motor to slow down. Making cuts using a dull table saw blade has the same effect. Worn motor brushes or a defective motor also result in the motor slowing down even when trying to saw through something light.
Why does the overload keep tripping on my table saw?
The table saw’s motor overload trips because there isn’t a dedicated electrical circuit or the blade binds up, overheating the motor. A dull or misaligned blade binds in the work piece. Replace the table saw blade if it's dull and regularly inspect the saw for correct alignment of cutting components.
Allow the motor to cool for at least 5 minutes before restarting the table saw. If the overload trips when cutting a light work piece, the motor could be defective. Replace the table saw’s motor or motor brushes if necessary.
Do I have to use the table saw stand?
No, you can mount the table saw to any stable work surface. The work surface must have an 11-inch square opening below the saw that allows sawdust to fall through to the floor. Without the opening, sawdust can build up under the saw base, causing damage to the motor and potentially starting on fire.
Can I use dado blades with my table saw?
Yes, you can use dado blades that fit your table saw. Only use dado blades permitted by the instructions in your owner's manual. Install a dado table insert when using dado blades.
Does the drive motor on my table saw need lubrication?
Most table saw motor bearings are sealed and permanently lubricated at the factory and require no additional lubrication. Lubricate pivot points and threaded rods with dry lubricants such as graphite or silicone; these dry lubricants will not attract and hold sawdust.
How do I maintain my table saw?
Unplug the table saw and clean out all sawdust inside the saw cabinet and the motor regularly.
Polish the saw table with automotive wax so that work pieces slide easily across the table during cutting.
Clean the cutting blades regularly with pitch and gum remover.
Replace the power cord when it's worn, cut or damaged.
Clean plastic parts with mild soapy water and dry them completely.
After every five hours of operation:
o Check the blade raising and tilting mechanisms for looseness.
o Adjust the mechanisms as necessary.
o Place a small amount of dry lubricant on the bevel gear.
o Clean sawdust and residue off the worm gear.
