hydro gear transaxle husqvarna mower
June 12, 2018

mower would barely move forward. it was a pump issue in the transaxle. my best advice is to do it right the first time all the pump parts where together. I ended up replacing the pump, hydraulic motor, aluminum pump assembly that the pump and motor spin on. A complete transaxle seal kit. Clean everything out really good i used parts/break cleaner. while I had her apart I installed a drain plug so I didn't have to remove the axle and flip it upside down to service it . The biggest thing that happens with these axles The oil gets old and no longer does it's job plus the oil is pretty generic to begin with. the transaxle simply eats itself. usually starting with the pump.. I highly recommend using the good black RTV called 'right stuff' install all the bolts finger tight and allow the silicone to dry overnight then tighten down the bolts. this will help for sure that you simply don't squeeze all the silicone and prevent leaks. Amsoil makes probably the best transaxle fluid its 20/50 with zink added so far i have over 30 hrs on the rebuilt axle and its better than new. and i saved myself about 500$ by repairing instead of replacing.
