Craftsman Mower Steering Shaft Assembly
The item arrived 2-days early which was nice. It seemed to be an exact match. When I went to bolt it to the mower, the holes were NOT TAPPED for the bolts like my original part was. Luckily I had a tap set to make the threads in all 4 holes. After that, my steering wheel would not fit over the shaft but a few passes with a flap wheel and it was in. Overall - was it a direct fit? No. But I made it work.

easy to install
I replaced components on the steering shaft couple years ago which was a challenge. this time, replacing the whole assembly went smoothly and quick.

Just what I needed, fast.
Needed a steering gear for my aged Craftsman mower. This part put it right, and I expect the mower to give me many more good years of service. This install is not for the casual weekend warrior, however. A good set of tools and PATIENCE is required. The install took me about an hour and a half.

Awesome - drives like brand new!!
Perfect fit and function. No complaints. For a home shade tree like me, it was about a 2-1/2 hour job. There is a lot of dash disassembly (including unbolting and moving a couple sheet metal components) to get the old unit out and the new one in, so plan your time accordingly. One minor issue is that the four holes in the mounting plate were not threaded, unlike the original unit. Was not a big deal for me because I have plenty of taps and dies.
