Relatively easy to install

I recently replaced 2 of the mandrel (blade spindle) shafts and bearings (and an idler pulley that was not turning smoothly). Remove mower deck from tractor. Remove the outboard plastic pulley covers as needed. With a lever or large channel-lock move the belt tensioner pulley and remove deck/blade drive belt. Undo the 7/8" nut from top of spindle shaft and remove pulley (a pulley puller may be necessary to make it easier). I stuck chunk of 2x4 under the deck to prevent the blade and shaft from turning while undoing the 7/8" nut. Remove the blade retaining bolt from bottom of spindle and remove blade. Remove 3 bolts that hold mandrel to deck and remove mandrel (be careful not to lose the 3 nuts that fit into the bottom of mandrel, if yours has nuts rather than a threaded mandrel housing). Spray the surface around the top and bottom of the mandrel housing where the bearing seats into the mandrel with a good penetrating oil. Replace the 7/8" nut on top of mandrel shaft to avoid damaging the threads. Set the mandrel on three bIocks as close to the shaft as possible. Tap on 7/8" nut with hammer to remove shaft and lower bearing from housing - shouldn't take too muck effort. Flip the housing over and place on 3 taller blocks and knock upper bearing out - I used a 1-1/4" diameter wooden dowel. Install new spindle and lower bearing into housing - I put some light lube around the outside of outer bearing race and tapped in it - went pretty easy. Flip the housing over and install top bearing. I used a 1/2" drive socket the same diameter as the outer race and tapped it in. The rest is just the nuts and bolts in reverse. Overall took me about 1-1/2 hours. Have fun.
