Most common Kenmore Elite microwave parts that need replacing
Sears PartsDirect has Kenmore Elite microwave replacement parts to fix any type of problem. We also have Kenmore Elite microwave convection oven parts to fix heating elements that aren't working. Here are the most common replacement parts.
- High-limit thermostat. The high-limit thermostat detects a short circuit or fire inside the microwave cabinet and shuts down the microwave to prevent injury. This component should be replaced a by a service technician because opening the microwave cabinet to replace the high-limit thermostat exposes you to a high-voltage capacitor that can retain a lethal electrical charge even when the microwave power cord is unplugged from the wall outlet.
- Cavity light bulb. The cavity light bulb illuminates the inside cavity of the microwave when you open the microwave door and when the microwave is cooking.
- Cooking tray. The cooking tray holds foods being cooked inside the microwave cavity and rotates to cook foods evenly.
- Turntable motor. The turntable motor rotates the cooking tray so foods cook evenly inside the microwave.
How to test dinnerware or cookware before use in a Kenmore Elite microwave
To test a dish or cookware for safe use inside your microwave, put it into the oven with a cup of water beside it. Start the microwave at 100% power for one minute. If the dish gets hot, do not use it.
Some dishes (melamine, some ceramic dinnerware, etc.) absorb microwave energy, becoming too hot to handle and slowing cooking times. Cooking in metal containers not designed for microwave use could damage the oven, as could containers with hidden metal (twist-ties, foil lining, staples, metallic glaze or trim).
