Common replacement parts for Kenmore Elite stand mixers

  • Carbon motor brushes. The spring-loaded motor brushes in a stand mixer fasten to the rotating armature, transferring power to the armature.
  • Speed control board. The speed control board controls the motor speeds along with the phase control board, and in turn, controls the amount of power supplied to the motor.
  • Governor assembly. The governor assembly, which is attached to end of the motor shaft, detects variances in motor speed. Along with the control board, it prevents the motor from slowing down under heavy loads to maintain a constant speed.
  • Planetary gear assembly. The planetary gear assembly spins the beater and rotates the spinning beater in an orbit round the inside of the mixing bowl.

How to adjust the speed control on your Kenmore Elite stand mixer

  • Hold a finger next to the beater shaft to count revolutions. Start the stand mixer at stir speed.
  • Count the orbital revolutions of the beater shaft for 15 seconds. At stir speed, the beater shaft should hit your finger 15 times indicating that the shaft is spinning at 60 RPM.
  • If the mixer is spinning too fast, unplug the mixer and evenly rotate the control plate upper mounting screws in. Rotate the screws out to increase speed.
  • After adjusting the speed, reassemble the mixer and test the speed again. Continue adjusting and checking the speed until the mixer runs at 60 RPM at stir speed.
  • Once the correct stir speed is set, unplug the mixer and tighten the jam nuts on the control plate upper mounting screws. Reinstall the end cover and restore power.
