Most common Amana front load washer parts and top load parts that need replacing
- Agitator. The agitator is mounted inside the spin basket of an Amana top-load washer. The agitator rotates back and forth to moves the clothes inside the spin basket to clean the load. Replace the agitator if it's cracked or broken, or if the top part of the agitator is not ratcheting properly, which indicates damage to the teeth that engage the agitate dogs.
- Door boot. The door boot is a bellow-shaped gasket between the door and the drum of a front-load washer that prevents leaks. The door boot—also called the door boot seal or door gasket—is flexible so it isn't damaged as the outer tub tumbles and spins.
- Door lock assembly. The door lock assembly on a front-load washer locks the washer door to prevent the door from opening during the wash cycle or the high-speed spin cycle. The door lock assembly includes the door latch that fits into the lock, which grabs the door latch, and a switch that signals to the control system whether the washer door is closed or open, locked or unlocked.
- Drain pump. The drain pump removes water from the washer during the wash cycle.
Troubleshooting your Amana washer when it won't spin
After the wash cycle ends and before the spin cycle starts, the water should drain from the washer. If water remains, first check for a kink or clog in the drain hose. Next, check for a backup in the house drain system. Check the drain hose installation because an improperly installed drain hose can cause drain water to siphon back into the washer after the drain pump stops. If the drain path is clear and the drain hose is installed properly, the drain pump might have failed or the water-level pressure switch might not sense how much water is in the washer.
In an Amana top-load washer, a failed lid switch can keep the washer from advancing to the drain and spin cycle. A failed timer or problem with the drive motor can also prevent a top-load washer from draining and spinning. Watch this video for additional troubleshooting tips to get your Amana top-load washer draining and spinning again.
