The right tool for the job

I tried all the tricks youtube had to offer to avoid using this puller. None of them worked and the Briggs & Stratton flywheel remains stuck hard because of a mangled key. Spending $15 for this puller solved the problem beautifully. A couple of turns of the nuts and "pop" it came off. Money well spent! A word of caution: you need to tap the 2 holes on the flywheel to screw in the 2 bolts.

I purchased this puller to remove the flywheel on an Craftsman lawn mower that was purchased in 1993 to replace the Woodruff key. All other pullers I have used during my career as an automotive technician have a jack screw that presses on the shaft of the item you're removing the part from. This puller does not have a jackscrew, but if you know what you're doing, it's easy enough to figure out. Since it doesn't come with instructions other than how to assemble it, it may be difficult for someone that's never used any kind of puller to figure out. Then again, if you're purchasing this, it's a safe bet that you know what you're doing. The flywheel on this lawn mower had been removed once before to replace the Woodruff key, so the holes were already threaded, although I don't remember if they were initially threaded from the factory. I am sure I used the correct tool back then to remove the flywheel, but I couldn't find it now. I intended to use my steering wheel puller, so I searched through my stash and found bolts that were the correct diameter and thread pitch, but they weren't long enough to use with the steering wheel puller. This Briggs & Stratton puller was less expensive to purchase than buying stainless steel bolts of the correct thread pitch and necessary length to use with my steering wheel puller, so I purchased it since I wasn't in a hurry. The bolts that come with this puller do double duty to cut threads into the flywheel if there are none already present, but they had a slightly different thread pitch than what was already threaded into the flywheel, so I could feel them cutting new threads. Once the puller was installed on the flywheel and the upper nuts snugged up against the puller body, it took less than a _ turn of one of those nuts to disengage the flywheel from the crankshaft. I would highly recommend this puller to anyone that needs to remove the flywheel from any Briggs & Stratton engine, or any engine, where this is the proper tool for that engine. It easy to use, and more importantly, it works as it was designed.
