Squeal at the spin cycle?
January 23, 2023

Had a horrible squeal at the beginning of the spin cycle. The original part (shaft) had worn down and thrown it's "C" clip. Over an 1/8 inch of metal was gone. Replaced with new and all is good. I recommend that the Thrust Washer be replaced at the same time, which I did.

This was the part, along with the drive block, that stopped my Kenmore washer from making loud noise at the end of the spin cycle. Found some excellent youtube videos with step by step durections...made this repair pretty easy!

JUST LIKE A WELL OILED MACHINE...

Replaced clutch and basket drive on a 1988 Kenmore special edition solid state WASHER. PREVIOUSLY I replace both the control board and power boards. This old washer with super capacity can't be replaced. Washer has the most choices for your cloths and house hold needs I'm so used to my back up whirlpool units seem like toys. The complete process from start to finish took a little longer since I had to replace the gear case as well. I also replaces the drive block while I had the machine apart. I have some experience working on my machine, When finished my washer sounds like a semi with a flat tire when done spinning. I am not sure I have the brake in completely but there is no indicator except when the shaft stops going in.
