Rotor position switch 7030713 fits on the side of the cam and gear and detects the position of the rotor valve.

Unplug the water softener before installing this part. Wear work gloves to protect your hands.

It was easy to install all you need is a Phillips screwdriver to remove 5 screws Is a rating of 1 to 5 5 being the hardest I would say it's probably a one maybe a 2

There is need to be careful when removing the old switch, and installing a new one. There is a white plastic gasket where one of the screws runs through it to secure the switch on its mounting plate. This gasket is small, about 3/16" diameter and 1/4" tall. It could be a challenge if you have large or buttery fingers. My fingers are neither "large" nor "buttery", but I dare say at times I was afraid the gasket may fall off my grip into the water softener. It took me several tries and patience (about 25-30 minutes) to install this switch. When installed with a new motor (I also purchased a new motor - the motor is much easier to install - no gaskets, only two screws and two wires to plug-in), my 26+ year-old Kenmore softener works as if "new"!
