Check the water heater

If your washer isn't receiving hot water, it can't wash the clothes properly. Make sure the problem doesn't actually lie with your water heater by checking other water outlets. In addition, if your washer is Energy Star-certified, you should be aware that it only heats water to 90 degrees Fahrenheit during the normal wash cycle.

Check the washer temperature selector switch

The water temperature selector switch is one of the washer parts that controls the heat of the water in the washer drum. This switch sits behind the knob you dial when choosing your water temperature for each wash load. If this switch fails or has defective electrical contacts, the washer doesn't fill properly and the water temperature is wrong. Replace this switch if necessary.

Replace the electronic temperature control board

If you need further washer repair help, move on to check the washer's electronic temperature control board. This board contains a temperature sensor that detects the temperature of the hot and cold water entering the wash tub and opens the water valves to let in the right temperature of water. If your water isn't warm enough, a defective control board could be the reason why.
