Part Information

Special details: In an electric dryer, if the timer advances in the timed dry cycle but not the automatic moisture sensing cycle, unplug the dryer and check continuity through the resistor using a multimeter. The resistor connects to the timer through the orange wire. Replace the resistor (part number 279872) if you measure infinite resistance. If the timer still doesn't advance in the moisture sensing cycle after replacing the resistor, replace timer WP3977678.

Timer WP3977678 controls the electrical components and the duration of the dryer cycles.

Unplug the dryer before installing this part. Wear work gloves to protect your hands.

The timer is fine. Customer service is clueless and not helpful on letting you the status of your parts. It said it was "in stock" when I ordered, then backordered in an email status.

Kenmore (Whirlpool) dryer timer replacement. Timer may have lasted one week when the knob was turned after a cycle and ready for the next load. Felt like the internal gears stripped. Once that happens, the clock timing and selection indicator are useless and so is the timer.
