New elevating shaft for radial arm saw 315.220100
September 04, 2018

If you consider taking apart a radial arm saw easy, then it was easy. The new shaft works good especially with some lithium grease. The original one was never lubricated at the factory. Luckily, this was the only one of the three parts in the assembly that was available. I had to file the semi-flat surface on the nylon gear and insert a .020 piece of metal onto the filed surface when I put the nylon gear onto the shaft. This re-established the flat contact surface that lets the gear turn the shaft. So far it's been working fine. DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT confuse a sliding miter saw with a radial arm saw. I hated to see Craftsman discontinue this saw. It certainly has its uses and I would have appreciated having more of the parts available. The parts direct website stated that the manufacturer no longer made the part. I'm sure the manufacturer would be happy to make the part if Sears Craftsman would just order some more.
